Minister of Agrarian and Spatial Planning / Head of the National Land Agency Nusron Wahid said President Prabowo Subianto’s wish to become mediator in the United States–Israel–Iran conflict received a positive response from other countries. Nusron said the move was supported by several Middle Eastern and other Islamic leaders. He cited the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan as two examples of countries backing the proposal. Peace in the Middle East must be fought for together, he added, because a war between Iran and the United States could have wide-ranging impacts. Prabowo, Nusron said, outlined the issue to guests at an iftar gathering with Islamic figures at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday night, 5 March 2026. He said Prabowo spoke for around three hours in front of the Muslim leaders. There were at least two topics discussed: firstly, geopolitics and the global economy, including the situation in Palestine and the impact of US–Israel strikes on Iran; secondly, Prabowo explained Indonesia’s current economic and social conditions. During the event, Prabowo shared an iftar with three senior leaders of Islamic organisations: Miftachul Achyar, chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama’s Executive Board (PBNU); Haedar Nashir, general chairman of Muhammadiyah; and Anwar Iskandar, chairman of the Majelis Ulama Indonesia. A discussion with other participants followed after the breaking of the fast. Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan said Prabowo met with the participants from around 8.00 PM WIB, and the presentations on the escalating US–Israel–Iran conflict lasted until about 11.00 PM WIB. ‘Three hours of briefing,’ he said. Several figures from various Islamic organisations were invited to join the iftar. Attendees included Yahya Cholil Staquf, head of PBNU, and Habib Hanif Alatas, secretary-general of the Majelis Syura of the Front Persaudaraan Islam (FPI). Other invited guests arrived at the Palace in the afternoon, including pondok pesantren leaders and prominent preachers.
