Nusantara Five Satellite Reinforces Connectivity as a Right of the People
Sinar Mas has officially announced the operational status of the Nusantara Five satellite on Monday (11/5/2026). This satellite is expected to expand internet access for communities across various regions of Indonesia, particularly areas previously hindered by distance and geographical conditions. Managing Director of Sinar Mas, Ferry Salman, stated that the presence of the satellite, also known as N5, forms part of efforts to strengthen Indonesia’s self-reliance in digital transformation. The N5 satellite is hoped to enhance national connectivity while positioning the internet as a pillar for improving the quality of life for the population. Ferry added that broader connectivity can open up partnership opportunities and drive innovation development, not only at the national level but also regionally. He emphasised that investment in connectivity in remote areas is not merely a business matter. “The next step for us after the N5 satellite receives permission to operate is to bridge connectivity for the community as soon as possible, especially those in the outermost and remote areas across the country,” he said in a written statement received by Kompas.com on Tuesday (12/5/2026). With the operation of the N5 satellite, Sinar Mas hopes to accelerate the strengthening of public services, regional economic circulation, innovation development, and equitable education through reliable internet connections. “We believe that based on the strength of togetherness and innovation that has previously launched the satellite into orbit, we can achieve this,” said Ferry. The launch was attended by the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Stella Christie, the Head of the Presidential Staff Office, Dudung Abdurachman, and the President Director of PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara, Adi Rahman Adiwoso.
