Number of Victims Treated for Suspected MBG Poisoning in Cakung Rises to 34
As many as 252 students in the Cakung area, East Jakarta, were reported to have experienced symptoms of poisoning after consuming Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) on Friday (8/5/2026). Of that number, 188 people underwent checks at hospitals.
The Head of the DKI Jakarta Health Service (Dinkes), Ani Ruspitawati, stated that the number of victims being treated due to the suspected MBG poisoning has reached 34 people. This figure has increased from the previous count of only 26 people. The victims typically experienced symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and fever.
“Actually, it didn’t increase, but there was a slight delay in the hospitals’ reporting speed. So on the first day, we recorded 26, but the latest figure is around 34 victims being treated in hospitals,” Ani said at the DKI DPRD Building, Central Jakarta, on Monday (11/5/2026).
According to her, the victims are being treated at seven different hospitals. Of the total 34 people undergoing treatment, six have been allowed to return to their respective homes. “The latest update this morning shows that six people have been discharged, having recovered. The rest are still being treated,” Ani stated.
She explained that based on preliminary examination results, the poisoning is suspected to be due to the wontons in the MBG menu. This is because the wontons tasted sour when served. However, she has not yet been able to confirm the cause of the poisoning. This is because laboratory tests are required to ascertain the cause of the poisoning.
