Number of Victims from Food Poisoning in Bima's Free Nutritious Meal Programme Rises to 27
The number of victims of food poisoning from the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme in Wera District, Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), has risen from 24 to 27 people. Dozens of victims are being treated at the Wera Community Health Centre (Puskesmas). “The total is 27 people,” stated Acting Head of Wera Puskesmas, Siti Rahma, when confirmed by detikBali on Sunday (5/4/2026). Siti detailed that the 27 poisoning victims consist of 23 toddlers, early childhood education (PAUD) children up to kindergarten (TK), one pregnant woman, one junior high school (SMP) student, and three elderly individuals. “(The victims) are still being treated, and some of their conditions have gradually improved,” Siti explained. Siti recounted that it began with a child from Tadewa Village, Wera District, being brought by parents to Wera Puskesmas on Saturday (4/4/2026) around 3:00 PM WITA. The child complained of stomach pain and diarrhoea. Patients then continued to arrive at Wera Puskesmas with similar complaints from 5:00 PM WITA until 10:00 PM WITA. Preliminary identification shows complaints of vomiting, stomach pain, and diarrhoea after consuming the MBG-packaged menu, such as rice, seasoned fried egg, nugget, cucumber, basil, and orange. “For now, food samples consumed have been taken for testing,” Siti revealed. Based on statements from several victims, the MBG menu consumed was distributed by the Wadu Bedi Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) located in Nanga Wera Village, Wera District, on Saturday morning. “They claimed to have consumed this food directly from the container on site, and some took it home in plastic bags and ate it in the garden,” Siti added.
