The Chairman of the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) Board of Commissioners, Anggito Abimanyu, stated that the number of inactive accounts will increase in 2025. Nevertheless, LPS recorded a decline in the growth of inactive accounts in 2025. According to LPS records, the number of inactive accounts grew by 9.23% in 2025, compared to 10.18% in 2024. “We are not disclosing the figures (number of accounts) as they are quite confidential, but together with the OJK (Financial Services Authority), we are monitoring this, noting that the addition of inactive accounts is currently increasing,” Anggito said during a working meeting with Commission XI of the House of Representatives on Thursday, 9 April 2026. Inactive accounts, according to LPS, are savings accounts in conventional banks, excluding digital banks, with values of less than or equal to Rp50,000 over a one-year period. Anggito noted that this criterion differs from that of the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK), which sets the inactive account period starting from three months. According to Anggito, inactive accounts have the potential to be misused for illegal activities. Therefore, he cautioned against new account openings that could end up as inactive accounts. “We have held various meetings and studies indicating that inactive accounts have the potential for misuse,” he said. Based on LPS data, there are still 49.7 million Indonesians without accounts in 2025. Of that number, 15.3 million people, or 5.31%, are in the productive age group.
