Jakarta (ANTARA) — NU Care-LAZISNU has again distributed humanitarian assistance to nine districts affected by disasters across Sumatra and Java during the Ramadhan 1447 Hijriah period.

The nine districts receiving aid include Aceh Tamiang, Aceh Singkil, Bener Meriah, Aceh Utara, and Bireuen in Aceh; Tapanuli Selatan in North Sumatra; Pasaman Barat in West Sumatra; and Tegal in Central Java.

“Assistance is provided so that communities can perform Ramadhan worship more comfortably, including during tarawih prayers,” said NU Care-LAZISNU Executive Director Riri Khariroh in Jakarta on Tuesday.

In several districts, aid distribution is combined with breaking-of-fast activities and commemoration of Nuzulul Quran alongside communities still struggling to recover from floods, landslides, and ground movements.

The Solidarity Ramadhan programme distributes not only basic food supplies but also essential items for affected communities. Beyond food packages and Ramadhan worship equipment, NU Care-LAZISNU also provides school supplies for children including bags, notebooks, writing instruments, and drawing books. Cash assistance is also given to orphans and the poor.

To strengthen religious values, NU Care-LAZISNU deploys religious teachers to temporary mosques and prayer rooms. To support psychological recovery of survivors, NU Peduli volunteers provide psychosocial support and trauma healing to residents in disaster areas.

According to Riri, most disaster-affected communities in these regions are still living in deplorable conditions. Although floods, landslides, and ground movements occurred several months ago, many residents still live in evacuation tents or makeshift houses.

“This situation deeply concerns us. Therefore, NU Peduli through NU Care-LAZISNU and other NU institutions are present to ensure communities continue receiving support, especially during Ramadhan,” she said.

Beyond basic necessities, NU Peduli also assists in constructing emergency facilities for communities, including temporary mosques, prayer rooms, Islamic schools, and sanitation facilities. Clean water provision is also a focus of the programme.

NU Care-LAZISNU Programme Director Syarifuddin stated the organisation distributed 15 trucks of clean water to five villages in Bireuen District, Aceh, with primary distribution points at Pante Lhong Village, Peusangan District, Bireuen.

“We are present in Pante Lhong to ensure donors’ contributions reach the right hands. This assistance is a collaborative programme between NU Care-LAZISNU and Shopee Barokah,” said Syarifuddin.

According to him, clean water distribution was selected following field assessments of urgent needs, as many residents struggle to access safe drinking water.

He hopes synergies with various parties can continue to expand to broaden the reach of humanitarian assistance.

“The Ramadhan Solidarity is not only a sharing activity but an effort to appeal to the wider public to care more for our brothers and sisters experiencing difficulties due to disasters,” he said.
