Singapore (ANTARA) – Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is partnering with Swedish telecommunications and networking company Ericsson and Sweden’s KTH Royal Institute of Technology to develop positioning technology based on artificial intelligence (AI) and sixth-generation (6G) communications networks.

The research aims to improve the accuracy and reliability of location tracking for robots, drones and other autonomous systems in complex indoor and outdoor environments, including areas where signals are obstructed, according to an NTU statement on Monday (19 October).

The initiative, scheduled to begin in November 2026, will combine existing positioning methods with AI and automated antenna calibration to improve location estimates.

According to the statement, the new technologies could support applications in sectors including healthcare, airports, ports, manufacturing, logistics and smart cities, as well as emergency response operations.
