NTB Provincial Government Seeks Central Government Help to Revitalise Collapsed Classrooms
NTB Provincial Government Seeks Central Government Help to Revitalise Two Collapsed Classrooms at SMA Negeri 7 Mataram. The NTB provincial government has asked the central government for assistance to revitalise two classrooms that collapsed and injured five students at SMA Negeri 7 Mataram.
The Head of NTB Education Office, Syamsul Hadi, said his office had communicated with the Directorate of Senior High Schools at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology to propose repairs to the school building.
‘We have communicated with the SMA Director in Jakarta; God willing, we will follow up soon, as there appears to be a green light for us to receive attention related to the disaster at SMAN 7 Mataram,’ he said in Mataram on Wednesday.
Syamsul explained that they had informed the central government about the two collapsed classrooms and the urgent revitalisation so that education services can continue normally.
‘We are conducting intensive communications to complete the administrative requirements as soon as possible. We want education services related to the classroom needs to be fulfilled there,’ he said.
He explained that the collapsed building was a classroom built by the school committee in 2006. According to him, the building, about two decades old, is already considered old for a public facility.
Initial inspection results indicated the roof structure had fractured at the cap of the construction. The condition caused the building, which used a wooden frame with a roof covered by concrete tiles, to collapse.
‘For now they are using the Class XII room, which happened to have finished its semester exams. Hopefully we can obtain assistance soon,’ he concluded.
The collapse of Class XI B2 and XI B3 at SMA Negeri 7 Mataram occurred around 12:30 WITA on 19 May 2026. The incident during the lunch break left five students trapped in the rubble.
The NTB government said four students sustained minor injuries, while one student suffered trauma and needed longer hospitalisation for observation.
