Mataram - The Marine and Fisheries Office (DKP) of West Nusa Tenggara Province (NTB) is facilitating mediation between the community and contractors in the development of the Merah Putih Fishermen’s Village in Bintaro Ward, Ampenan District, Mataram City.

The Head of the Capture Fisheries Division of NTB DKP, Syaifuddin Zuhri, stated that the construction of the ice factory remains a hindrance in the fishermen’s village project.

“The specification of the ice factory being built is slurry ice or seawater slush ice, which requires pipe installation for seawater intake,” he said in a statement in Mataram on Friday.

Syaifuddin revealed that the most efficient route for the seawater intake pipe installation for the Merah Putih Fishermen’s Village ice factory is currently controlled by local residents.

Cross-party coordination is key to finding a solution that does not harm the community while ensuring the fishermen’s village project continues according to target.

He hopes the mediation process can align the interests of the affected community with the contractor’s side, so that the pipe installation route can be agreed upon soon.

Based on NTB DKP monitoring results, the progress of the Merah Putih Fishermen’s Village (KNMP) in Bintaro, Mataram City, has currently reached 23 percent and is still in line with the work plan with a target of 100 percent completion by the end of June 2026.

The Bintaro KNMP is part of the government’s efforts to improve the quality of life for coastal communities through the development of supporting infrastructure, strengthening the fisheries economy, and improving the fishermen’s residential environment.

The government selected Bintaro Ward as the location for the fishermen’s village programme because it is one of the fishermen’s settlement pockets in Mataram City, such as limited basic facilities, limited access to fisheries processing technology, and residential conditions vulnerable to abrasion and tidal flooding.

Several facilities being built include fish landing shelters and portable coolers, freezers, ice factory, supply kiosks, management office, meeting hall, generator house, and fishermen’s workshop.

“We hope the existence of the Merah Putih Fishermen’s Village programme can bring significant changes for the local community,” Syaifuddin concluded.
