NTB Man Denies Abandoning Malaysian Wife, Says He Still Provided for Her After Divorce
A viral social media post claiming that Malaysian national Norida Akmal Ayob (45) was abandoned by her former husband during their 18-year marriage has been denied by the man in question.
Badi, Norida's ex-husband and a resident of Ubung Village, Jonggat Subdistrict, Central Lombok, firmly rejected the allegations.
"During our 18 years of marriage, I never once abandoned her. Even after our divorce in 2024, for about one year and eight months, I was still the one responsible for her while she remained here," Badi said on Wednesday (18/2/2026).
"So whatever claims about abandonment over 18 years — that is a lie," he added.
Badi stated that since their marriage in 2005, Norida had always been provided for as any wife would be. He said Norida's decision to live in Lombok after their marriage was made through mutual agreement.
"As long as she was still here, we continued to provide for her. She came here legally, through proper channels, not illegally," Badi said.
He also revealed that he had arranged an Indonesian identity card (KTP) for Norida at the Jonggat Subdistrict office. This was done so that Norida could continue residing in Bumi Gora to accompany Badi and their two children.
"I arranged a KTP for her so she could become an Indonesian citizen. Once she received the KTP, she legally became an Indonesian citizen," Badi said.
After 18 years of marriage since 2005, Badi and Norida officially divorced in 2024. Their separation was conducted amicably, with no significant disputes. Badi also denied a separate claim circulating online that Norida had been reduced to working as a street sweeper.
