JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The management of the New Priok Eastern Access (NPEA) project claims that the project they are currently working on will still provide access for fishermen in the Cilincing waters, North Jakarta. This statement comes in response to protests from fishermen who feel disrupted by the construction activities of the project in the Muara Cakung Drain area. Project Manager of NPEA Section 2 from PT Pembangunan Perumahan, Ikhsan Budi Prasetyo, stated that access for fishermen’s boats entering and exiting has been accounted for in the planning of the toll road construction, which partially runs over the sea. He explained that the project design includes two main access routes, each approximately 60 metres wide and 18 metres high. “This is hoped to ensure that not only small fishermen’s boats, but also larger fishing structures can enter and exit comfortably,” he said. Ikhsan added that during the construction process, his team is also preparing safety markers such as lights, buoys, and route indicators to keep fishermen’s navigation activities safe, especially at night. “Our construction equipment on site must also be ensured to be safe and marked sufficiently so that they are not hit by fishermen’s boat propellers,” he stated. On the other hand, Pelindo also responded to the protest action carried out by the fishermen. Pelindo’s Group Head of Company Secretariat, Ali Sodikin, stated that they respect the form of aspiration expressed by the fishermen. He mentioned that they understand the importance of the presence and smooth activities of the fishermen. Therefore, Ali emphasised that Pelindo is carrying out all project activities in accordance with applicable regulations. “And considering aspects of safety, smooth navigation routes, and environmental sustainability,” he added. As a follow-up to the fishermen’s protests, Ali assured that Pelindo will continue to coordinate with various parties and provide space for dialogue. “We are also continuously coordinating with relevant agencies and are open to dialogue with the community, including fishermen,” he added.
