The Jakarta Provincial Government declared the Waste Sorting Movement on Sunday (10/5/2026). The movement is part of Governor’s Instruction (Ingub) No. 5 of 2026 on Waste Sorting and Processing from the Source. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the Ingub not only requires residents to sort waste but also obliges companies such as hotels, restaurants, cafes, markets, apartments, and others to process waste from their source. “Matters related to waste sorting, especially for Horeka (hotels, restaurants, and cafes), are regulated not only through applicable laws but also through the Governor’s Instruction, which we have detailed more thoroughly,” he said in the Rasuna Said area, South Jakarta, on Sunday (10/5/2026) morning. The Ingub specifies that Horeka companies must manage waste at the source. Companies are also required to provide processing facilities and manage waste independently so that the waste leaving the company premises consists only of residue. Pramono emphasised that every company must comply with the Ingub. His side will not hesitate to impose sanctions if any company violates the regulation. “If they do not comply and fail to meet the requirements, sanctions will be imposed. The details of the sanctions will be conveyed later. But clearly, this movement is not half-hearted because Jakarta wants to change if this is implemented earnestly,” he said.
