Norway lifts textile quota

JAKARTA (JP): The Norwegian government has decided to lift its import quota on textile and related textile products, including those from Indonesia.

The director of exports of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Sudar SA, said yesterday that Norway's new import policy would be effective from Jan. 1 next year.

He said it would apply to category one textile products such as woven jackets, and category seven such as bed linen, Sudar said.

Local surveyor company PT Sucofindo will remain in charge of monitoring the country's exports of textile and textile products to Norway despite the quota abolishment.

The Norwegian government currently imposes a quota on the import of products in the two categories under the Agreement on Textiles and Clothing.

According to ministry data, Indonesia's exports of textile products to Norway for both categories have not met the limit.

Indonesia has a remaining 286,520 kilograms of this year's import quota on category two textiles, Antara said. (das)
