Northern Coastal Road in West Java to be Pothole-Free by Tomorrow Ahead of Eid Exodus
CIREBON — In preparation for the Eid holiday exodus in 2026, the Northern Coastal Road (Pantura) in West Java is targeted to be free of potholes by Thursday, 12 March 2026. Repairs were undertaken following the discovery of thousands of pothole sites on the national highway.
According to Rina Kumala Sari, Head of the Large-Scale Road Implementation Office for DKI Jakarta–West Java under the Directorate General of Roads at the Ministry of Public Works (PU), approximately 7,400 potholes were initially identified across all national roads in West Java.
“Overall, there were roughly 7,400 potholes across national roads in West Java Province. About half of these were on the Pantura because it carries heavy vehicle traffic,” Rina explained at a coordination post in Pantura, Cirebon, West Java, on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.
Rina noted that approximately 3,000 potholes were located on the Pantura, with the largest concentration on the Karawang to Cirebon stretch, a major vehicle transit route in the region.
“Around 3,000 potholes are on the Pantura, and the greatest number is in Karawang,” she said.
Among the five administrative zones responsible for the Pantura, most damage points have been successfully repaired. “Alhamdulillah, as of now, four of the five zones have zero potholes. Only in zone 1.1, which previously had the most potholes, there are now 131 remaining,” she added.
The remaining potholes are still being processed and are expected to be completed shortly. “God willing, these will be closed today or tomorrow. In keeping with our commitment, by 13 March there will be no more existing potholes on the national road,” she said.
Should new potholes emerge due to various factors, the ministry will continue to conduct repairs quickly.
