The North Toraja Police Chief AKBP Stephanus Luckyo has denied the narrative circulating on social media regarding evidence (barbuk) of methamphetamine weighing 160 kilograms at the North Toraja Police Station disappearing after being consumed by rats and insects.

“The information that has recently circulated on social media regarding evidence of methamphetamine weighing 160 kilograms lost due to being eaten by rats and insects is a hoax or false news,” Luckyo said when asked for confirmation on Wednesday (11 March).

Luckyo stated that the reports were misleading and not based on valid data. According to him, the reports were deliberately created to provoke negative public opinion.

“In fact, the North Toraja Police Station has never disclosed or seized a methamphetamine drug case with a quantity as large as 160 kilograms. That figure is information manipulation that has no data basis whatsoever,” he explained.

According to Luckyo, the narrative circulating on social media aimed to discredit the integrity of the police in managing evidence.

“The images used were also results of AI manipulation,” he said.

Luckyo emphasised that the police remain steadfast and fully committed to combating the illegal circulation of narcotics in the North Toraja District region to protect the community from the dangers of drugs.

“We ask the public to be more critical and not become part of spreading hoaxes. Let us be wiser in filtering information circulating on social media, filter before sharing,” said Luckyo.
