North Sumatra Settlement Development Awarded Environmental Certification
The Green Building Council Indonesia (GBCI) has presented an environmental certification and Greenship Neighborhood version 1.0 Gold-level plaque to Royal Botanica Park Sumatera for its Grandis and Livingston clusters. The presentation took place at Grand City Hall in Medan, North Sumatra.
GBCI Chief Executive Ignesjz Kemalawarta presented the plaque to Royal Sumatra Commissioner Tarman Hartono, whilst the certificate was received by PT Majaindo Citra Swakarsa Housing Project Manager Irwan Tenggara. The event was also attended by Deli Serdang Regent Asri Ludin Tambunan.
“Area planning has long-term impacts on environmental quality and community life. Through the Greenship Neighborhood scheme, GBCI encourages measured and integrated area development, including water management, waste treatment, connectivity, and open spaces,” said Ignesjz Kemalawarta.
The certification has been awarded amid increasing urban growth in Medan and Deli Serdang, which presents new challenges such as pressure on water resources, rising waste volumes, and the need for improved connectivity and residential environmental quality.
Greenship Neighborhood is a sustainability assessment system at the area scale that evaluates planning and management aspects in an integrated manner, ranging from land ecology and connectivity to water and waste management, energy efficiency, and community wellbeing.
Royal Botanica Park Sumatera’s Grandis and Livingston clusters achieved a total of 73 points in the performance-based assessment process. The Gold rating reflects that the area has met the sustainability standards established by GBCI across various development aspects.
Going forward, GBCI remains committed to expanding the application of sustainable area standards across various regions in Indonesia, so that urban growth can progress in line with principles of resource efficiency and improved quality of life for communities.
