Medan (ANTARA) - The North Sumatra Provincial Government continues to accelerate the construction of 10 bridges in several areas affected by post-disaster events in the North Sumatra region.

“There are 10 bridges that we are currently building in collaboration with the TNI,” said the Assistant for Governance and Community Welfare of the North Sumatra Provincial Secretary, Basarin Yunus Tanjung, during a press conference in Medan on Wednesday.

According to him, the construction of these bridges is intended to restore connectivity between regions and ensure that the distribution of logistics to affected communities continues uninterrupted.

This acceleration effort is being carried out to ensure that the activities of affected communities can return to normal as soon as possible, especially in areas that have long had limited access.

“Of the 10 bridges, eight are ready. However, due to another flood event on February 11 and 16, one bridge shifted and was damaged. However, we will repair it again,” he said.

Basarin, who is also the Daily Chairman of the North Sumatra Provincial Emergency Disaster Response Task Force, explained that the construction of bridges in villages with limited access is also being carried out in collaboration with the TNI.

The bridges being built are rampo bridges, which are bridges with a construction model made of iron, equipped with plates for the walls, and the top is filled with soil.

“This is what we are currently building in collaboration with the TNI, where the materials come from the North Sumatra Provincial Government and the equipment comes from the TNI,” he said.

The Head of the TNI AD Information Service, Brigadier General TNI Donny Pramono, admitted that TNI personnel completed the construction of bridges in eight locations in North Sumatra as an effort to restore connectivity for communities affected by the disaster.

“This construction includes various types of bridge structures, including suspension bridges and Bailey bridges,” he said in Jakarta on Friday (January 30).

TNI personnel, he continued, work by digging soil, transporting materials, preparing foundations, installing safety iron, and painting bridges that connect residential areas.

The TNI continues to work hand in hand with affected communities to provide safe and decent connecting routes, thereby normalizing the activities of residents in North Sumatra.

“This activity is carried out to restore the transportation access of residents which was temporarily disrupted due to damage to connecting bridges,” he said.

A total of eight bridges are currently under construction in North Sumatra, namely the Suspension Bridge, Ladang Tengah-Andam Dewi Village, the Suspension Bridge, Environment 3, Bonalumban Village to Environment 4, Tukka Village, Tukka District, Tapanuli Tengah Regency, the Perintis Garuda Suspension Bridge connecting the road between Environment I Lumban Tonga-Tonga, Bonalumban Village to Environment III Onan Tukka, Tukka Village, the Perintis Garuda Suspension Bridge connecting the road between Padang Masiang Village and Ujung Batu Village, Barus District, Tapanuli Tengah Regency.
