North Sumatra and West Sumatra Show Solidarity by Donating Rp 287 Billion for Aceh's Recovery
As many as 12 local governments in West Sumatra have contributed grants to support the recovery of areas affected in Aceh. Previously, 8 local governments in North Sumatra had already channelled similar support.
The total grants collected from local governments in West Sumatra amount to Rp 27 billion. This support comes from various regions, including the City of Padang with Rp 5 billion, the Cities of Payakumbuh and Padang Panjang each with Rp 3 billion. Then, a number of other regencies/cities with contributions varying between Rp 1 billion and Rp 2 billion.
Previously, the total inter-regional grants from North Sumatra reached Rp 260 billion. Thus, the total grants collected from both provinces amount to Rp 287 billion. These funds will be directly channelled to areas in Aceh that are still heavily impacted by hydrometeorological disasters.
The Head of the Task Force (Satgas) for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) Post-Disaster Sumatra, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, stated that this inter-regional grant mechanism is a form of national gotong royong in accelerating the recovery of affected areas.
“We only connect the inter-regional grants, so that this assistance can be directly felt. We oversee our mechanism, from account to account, to ensure it is on target and quickly utilised by the areas in need,” Tito said in his statement on Wednesday (29/4/2026).
He conveyed this at the Appreciation Event for High-Achieving Local Governments in Palembang, South Sumatra, last weekend.
He revealed that the central government previously allocated and returned TKD with a value of up to Rp 10.6 trillion to support recovery in the three affected provinces. This scheme provides fiscal space for relatively less impacted areas to help those with heavier recovery conditions.
Tito said that several areas in Aceh are still facing recovery challenges, including the risk of follow-on disasters such as floods and landslides.
Therefore, Tito said, accelerating interventions through cross-regional support is a strategic step to ensure recovery proceeds evenly and sustainably.
“The total assistance from these two provinces is expected to accelerate Aceh’s recovery. This is a concrete manifestation of solidarity and gotong royong among regions in facing disasters,” he added.
Tito emphasised that the Satgas PRR will ensure the entire grant distribution process is strictly monitored, both administratively and in implementation on the ground. This aims to guarantee accountability and the effectiveness of budget utilisation.
Through this collaboration, the government is optimistic that recovery in the affected areas of Aceh can proceed more quickly. This collaboration is expected to strengthen regional resilience in facing potential disasters in the future.
