North Jakarta residents urged to ensure homes are secure when travelling for Eid exodus
The North Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jakut) has requested residents heading for the Eid exodus to ensure their homes are left in safe condition and placed under the care of neighbours.
“We remind residents to conduct thorough inspections before heading to their hometowns,” said North Jakarta Mayor Hendra Hidayat in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He stated that inspections should include ensuring cookers are turned off and disconnecting unused electrical installations.
“We urge residents to inform their neighbourhood associations (RT/RW) before departing,” he said.
The authorities are currently compiling data on vacant homes for joint patrol operations to protect abandoned property. He emphasised the importance of maintaining public order, particularly during the Takbir festive period, and called on the community to celebrate the day of victory wisely and avoid dangerous activities.
Hendra urged residents not to use firecrackers as they could potentially trigger security disturbances such as brawls and undesired incidents.
“Let us protect our respective neighbourhoods. Protect our community, protect Jakarta,” he said.
Previously, the North Jakarta Coordination Forum of City Leaders (Forkopimko) conducted monitoring of Eid exodus preparations at Tanjung Priok Terminal. They monitored various aspects, ranging from health inspections of bus crews to providing guidance to residents returning to their hometowns.
