The North Jakarta City Government, through the North Jakarta Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture Sub-District Office (KPKP), has ensured that sacrificial meat consumed by residents is safe and of high quality. This follows inspections at various slaughter sites during the Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah celebrations.

A joint task force conducted checks at 325 sacrificial animal slaughter points (TPHK) across North Jakarta, said the office’s head, Novy Christine Palit, on Friday. Officials inspected 5,587 animals, including 1,597 cattle, 16 buffalo, 3,531 goats, and 443 sheep.

However, 70.9 kilograms of post-mortem organs were found unfit for consumption due to suspected diseases such as pneumonia and liver flukes. The contaminated organs were destroyed on-site using strict procedures, including burial, burning, or disinfectant treatment to prevent pathogen spread.

“The post-mortem checks are the final safeguard for food quality. We must ensure diseased organs do not reach consumers,” Palit said.

The inspection involved personnel from the DKI Jakarta KPKP Office, North Jakarta KPKP Sub-District Office, the Indonesian Veterinary Association (PDHI), IPB University’s School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedicine (SKHB), and the Saka Tarunabumi Scout group.

“We also urge residents to report any suspicious meat conditions to officials immediately,” Palit added.

Meanwhile, IPB University SKHB inspector Alifvia (23) explained that checks focused on vital organs such as liver, heart, lungs, spleen, and kidneys. “These checks must not be overlooked. Consuming diseased organs could pose serious health risks,” she said.
