North Jakarta City Government to Regulate Truck Trailer and Container Depots
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The North Jakarta City Government will regulate the presence of truck trailer and container depots still operating in residential areas to safeguard residents’ safety and comfort. “This regulation aims to improve residents’ safety while restoring the function of urban spaces to their designated purposes,” said Deputy Mayor of North Jakarta, Fredy Setiawan, in Jakarta on Wednesday. According to him, the operation of truck trailer depots in housing zones is fundamentally not permitted, especially if they do not comply with zoning regulations and lack business permits. In addition, the presence of depots in the midst of residential areas not only violates rules but also disrupts the community, from noise to rapid road infrastructure damage. Nevertheless, according to Fredy, the regulation cannot be carried out hastily. This is because the North Jakarta City Government first needs to strengthen data and legal foundations by involving various regional apparatus organisations (OPD), starting from the Public Works, Spatial Planning, and Land Agency (CKTRP), Transportation Agency, Road Infrastructure Agency, Civil Service Police Unit, as well as economic and legal elements. Fredy stated that several locations have already come under attention, including the Bisma Road area in Tanjung Priok, as well as several spots in Koja Subdistrict where container vehicle activities are still found in residential environments. He said that after the data collection and verification stage is complete, the city government will proceed with socialisation to the owners or operators of truck trailer depots. In addition to enforcement, the city government is also preparing solutions in the form of relocation to areas suitable for their purpose. “Relocation is the way out and there may be challenges with distance or costs, but compliance with regulations remains the priority,” he said. He assured that this policy is not intended to hinder business activities but rather to ensure that economic activities run orderly and do not harm the community. “The regulation target is set to begin implementation within one to two months, adjusted to field readiness,” said Fredy.
