Jakarta (ANTARA) - The North Jakarta City Government has deployed eight trucks to tackle the accumulation of rubbish at the Temporary Disposal Site (TPS) in Cincin Reservoir, Papanggo Village, Tanjung Priok District. “A total of eight truck fleets have been mobilised to accelerate transportation and keep the situation under control,” said the Head of the Environmental Implementation Unit for Tanjung Priok District, Amir, in Jakarta on Wednesday. The build-up had occurred in recent days but was promptly addressed to prevent it from escalating into a larger problem. “We immediately accelerated transportation to ensure it does not last long,” said Amir. The rubbish accumulation caused an unpleasant odour extending up to a radius of about 20 metres, particularly in hot weather. However, the situation has now been resolved with the optimisation of daily rubbish transport. “Now there is no disturbing odour. We ensure transportation runs faster to avoid prolonged accumulation,” he stated. The eight rubbish trucks consist of large tipper trucks, tronton trucks, and other support vehicles. “On average, the volume of rubbish transported reaches around 60 tonnes per day,” he added. This optimisation is also a response to adjustments in the waste disposal quota to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST). For the long term, the construction of a Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Waste Processing Site (TPS3R) facility, which will soon be completed in the area, is underway. “In the future, this TPS3R will help reduce the waste burden, making handling faster and more efficient,” he explained. Additionally, improvements include closing illegal TPS sites in the vicinity, including the Kencana TPS, which is now repurposed as a cart pool. “These efforts are carried out to ensure more centralised and orderly waste management,” said Amir.
