MANILA (AFP): A policy of not intervening with each other's internal affairs has worked well for the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), scholars and businessmen said here on Monday.
Singapore professor Chin Tet Yung said the ASEAN Eminent Persons Group reviewed over the weekend the grouping's consensus building policy which he credited for helping solve past crises in the region.
The Eminent Persons Group is composed of academics and members of the private sector tasked by ASEAN leaders to come up with recommendations to help shape future policies.
"We are looking into ways and means of consensus mechanism in ASEAN and try to work on symbolically with the nonintervention policy," Chin told a news conference here.
