Non-Subsidised LPG Price Hike Prompts Central Java Police to Inspect Markets to Prevent Hoarding and Adulteration
Central Java Provincial Police’s Deputy Head of Criminal Investigation, Senior Commissioner Djoko Julianto, stated that they will collaborate with PT Pertamina to intensify market inspections to anticipate hoarding and adulteration of LPG. This is in response to the price increase of non-subsidised LPG. “We have coordinated with Pertamina, and we will continue efforts in socialisation, including routine activities. Yesterday, the Central Java Police and their subordinate police resorts informed the heads of criminal investigation units to coordinate and monitor markets,” said Djoko during an interview in Semarang on Thursday (23/4/2026). “We are continuously striving to ensure that no individuals are found hoarding LPG or fuel, which could cause shortages in society,” added Djoko. He revealed that Pertamina has assured adequate stock for LPG supply needs in Central Java. “However, we are working with Pertamina and other ministries, including local government, to continue market checks, including at registered official agents with Pertamina,” he said. Djoko stated that over the past two weeks, Central Java Police and their subordinate police resorts have handled 48 cases of suspected misuse of subsidised LPG and fuel, including hoarding. The number of suspects arrested exceeds the total cases, as more than one suspect is captured per case. “This is our effort and commitment from Central Java Police to maintain price stability, including the availability of LPG and fuel, for the safety of society,” said Djoko. Djoko hopes that the public will actively participate in monitoring and reporting any suspected misuse of subsidised LPG and fuel. “If there are suspicious activities related to hoarding fuel or LPG, inform us. We will conduct checks. If proven, we will enforce the law against the perpetrators,” he said.
