Non-Subsidised Diesel Prices Rise: Cost of Full Tank for Fortuner Exceeds Rp 2 Million
JAKARTA - PT Pertamina (Persero) has officially adjusted the prices of non-subsidised fuels (BBM) at petrol stations throughout Indonesia effective 4 May 2026.
This price increase targets RON 98 fuel, or Pertamax Turbo, as well as non-subsidised diesel products.
Dexlite has risen to Rp 26,000 per litre from Rp 23,600 per litre in April 2026. Meanwhile, Pertamina Dex is now priced at Rp 27,900 per litre, up from the previous Rp 23,900 per litre.
This adjustment poses a particular challenge for owners of modern diesel vehicles, especially ladder-frame SUV segments such as the Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
Given that common-rail diesel engines are highly sensitive to fuel quality, the use of diesel with a high cetane number is essential to maintain performance and component longevity.
Toyota’s flagship SUV has a fuel tank capacity of 80 litres.
At Rp 26,000 per litre for Dexlite, owners must spend Rp 2,080,000, an increase of Rp 192,000 from the previous calculation.
If using Pertamina Dex at Rp 27,900 per litre, the total cost reaches Rp 2,232,000, up Rp 320,000 from before.
The Pajero Sport has a slightly smaller tank capacity than its competitor, at 68 litres.
At Rp 26,000 per litre for Dexlite, the total cost is Rp 1,768,000, an increase of Rp 163,200 from the previous figure.
For information, using low-quality fuel in modern diesel engines risks clogging injectors and accelerating carbon buildup in the combustion chamber.
However, with prices soaring, driving efficiency and routine maintenance are now key for diesel vehicle owners to keep expenses under control.
