Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia has spoken out regarding the rising prices of non-subsidised fuel oil (BBM) at petrol stations owned by PT Pertamina as well as private petrol stations.

As is known, non-subsidised BBM diesel has been reported to exceed around Rp30,000 per litre at several private petrol stations, while at Pertamina petrol stations it reaches Rp27,900 per litre for Pertamina Dex and Rp26,000 per litre for Dexlite.

The most important thing, said Bahlil, is that subsidised fuel prices will not experience any increase.

“Once again, I say that for subsidised oil, whether petrol, diesel, or LPG, there will be no increase. I say there will be no increase. However, for BBM that is for industrial purposes or only for those who can afford it, the adjustment is based on market prices and in accordance with the 2022 ESDM ministerial regulation,” said Bahlil at the Presidential Palace Complex on Tuesday (5/5/2026).

Director General of Oil and Gas (Migas) at the Ministry of ESDM, Laode Sulaiman, explained that the increase in non-subsidised BBM prices, particularly diesel which is widely used in the industrial sector, is inseparable from the current volatile global geopolitical conditions.

“Yes, of course, if we observe, this geopolitical situation is unstable. Up and down, up and down, up and down,” said Laode when met at the Ministry of ESDM on Monday night (4/5/2026).

Nevertheless, according to Laode, the government is currently prioritising aspects of energy resilience, particularly in maintaining the availability of BBM supply domestically. Thus, the government has not yet focused on price interventions.

“The most important thing for us right now is to keep the stock safe. That’s it for now, we don’t need to think about it yet. But the stock is safe, that’s the most important,” he said.
