Tabitha Sumendap, Safeguarding Officer and member of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia), has expressed deep concern regarding allegations of physical violence and sexual harassment occurring within the national training centre (pelatnas) for sport climbing.

NOC Indonesia regards this matter with gravity and emphasises that all forms of violence, harassment, and intimidation are utterly intolerable under any circumstances. Such conduct directly contradicts Olympic values encompassing respect, excellence, and friendship, as well as fundamental principles of athlete protection.

“We view this issue as a very serious matter. The safety, dignity, and wellbeing of athletes must be the paramount priority in every sports ecosystem,” stated Tabitha Sumendap, Safeguarding Officer of NOC Indonesia, in an official statement on Saturday, 28 February 2026.

NOC Indonesia, through its Safeguarding Task Force, will continue to oversee the investigation currently underway in accordance with applicable mechanisms and regulations.

“Safeguarding is not merely an administrative programme, but rather a moral commitment and institutional responsibility. Every Indonesian athlete has the right to train, develop, and achieve within an environment that is safe, inclusive, and free from threats in any form, including harassment, insult, intimidation, sexual abuse, and psychological abuse,” Tabitha emphasised.

Since 2024, NOC Indonesia has implemented a comprehensive Safeguarding programme as a preventative and systematic measure to create a secure sports environment. Official correspondence has been sent to all National Federations affiliated with NOC Indonesia to ensure that education, awareness, and implementation of safeguarding policies are conducted consistently and measurably.

Beyond the Safeguarding framework, Executive Committee member of NOC Indonesia Greysia Polii, a former badminton double champion, affirmed that athlete protection must form the foundation of the national sports development system.

“As a former athlete, I understand full well that training spaces must be safe and supportive places, not spaces that instil fear,” said Greysia. “No achievement is worth the loss of an athlete’s sense of security and dignity. We all bear responsibility for ensuring this does not happen.”

Another NOC Indonesia Executive Committee member, Josephine Tampubolon, expressed profound empathy with the victims affected by these incidents.

“We are committed to continuing to strengthen protective systems, building a culture of mutual respect, and ensuring that Indonesian sporting achievement always proceeds in tandem with the protection of athletes’ rights and dignity as human beings,” stated Josephine.
