NOC Indonesia Supports Sports Minister Erick Thohir in Investigating Alleged Violence at Rock Climbing Training Centre
Jakarta – The firmness shown by Indonesia’s Sports Minister Erick Thohir in responding to allegations of sexual harassment and physical violence at the national rock climbing training centre has received full support from NOC Indonesia Chairman Raja Sapta Oktohari.
The case, involving incidents at the national training facility under the Indonesian Rock Climbing Federation (FPTI), is considered a serious matter. Oktohari stressed that all forms of violence, harassment, and intimidation have no place in the sporting world, particularly at training centres that should serve as safe spaces for athletes to develop and achieve success.
“I am deeply concerned by the allegations of sexual harassment and physical violence against rock climbing athletes,” Oktohari stated in an official statement on Tuesday, 3 March 2026. “NOC Indonesia fully supports Minister Erick Thohir’s commitment and swift action to ensure this case is investigated objectively, transparently, professionally, and justly. Training centres must be safe spaces for all athletes.”
In line with the Sports Ministry’s efforts, NOC Indonesia is also overseeing the internal investigation process being conducted through its Safeguarding Task Force. This measure reflects the commitment to athlete protection and reform of Indonesia’s sporting ecosystem.
According to Oktohari, the safeguarding programme implemented since 2024 represents a moral commitment and institutional responsibility to ensure every athlete has the right to train and compete in an environment that is safe, inclusive, and free from all forms of threat.
NOC Indonesia has also sent formal letters to all member national sports federations to ensure safeguarding education, promotion, and implementation are carried out consistently and measurably.
“We continue to coordinate intensively with the Indonesian Rock Climbing Federation, the Sports Ministry, and other national sports federations. There is no compromise on allegations of sexual violence. This serves as a reminder to all sporting stakeholders to strengthen prevention systems, education, and safe and trustworthy reporting mechanisms,” Oktohari said.
NOC Indonesia remains committed to supporting all strategic government measures in creating a national sporting ecosystem characterised by integrity, professionalism, and freedom from all forms of violence.
