No spies deployed: ABRI
JAKARTA (JP): City Military Commander Maj. Gen. Djadja Suparman said on Sunday that his command stopped deploying intelligence officers at campuses after the massive May riots.
"After the May incident, we stationed no more intelligence officers at campuses to monitor the students," Djadja said.
Djadja made the remarks in response to an announcement on Saturday by Wiwid Pratiwo, a student of Trisakti University's air transportation management school, was recruited as an informer by an officer of the military police's presidential guard unit.
Wiwid, 21, mentioned the soldier as second class private BL.
May's rioting was sparked by a shooting incident on May 12 which claimed the lives of four students from Trisakti University in West Jakarta.
Djadja said the military police were investigating the person mentioned by Wiwid, from whom he claimed to have received warnings several hours in advance that soldiers would open fire on the afternoon of Nov. 13 near the Atma Jaya University campus.
"There are three second class private officers with the initials BL, one is Bambang Leksono and the others are still being investigated by the national military police commander," Djadja was quoted by Antara as saying.
He said Wiwid should have reported the case earlier to security officers.
"If he said he was pressured by the security officer, he should have come to us openly. I would have received him and protect him from any threats," he said. (ivy)
