No Shame: 21-Year-Old Gen Z Earns Millions from Goat Farming
At just 21 and still in university, Gen Z entrepreneur Hanan has already earned hundreds of millions of rupiah. This is due to his goat farming business developed alongside his father. Located in the Taman Tridaya Indah residential complex in Bekasi Regency, West Java, Hanan’s farm has sold over 50 goats ahead of the 2026 Eid al-Adha festival. The goats sold vary in type, weight, and price, ranging from Rp2.5 million to Rp5 million each. “We take an average price of Rp3 million per goat. So 51 times Rp3 million, the revenue is around Rp150 million to Rp170 million,” Hanan told Kompas.com on 22 May 2026. He said the ability to sell over 50 goats was due to leveraging Instagram and TikTok. Hanan began creating social media content in 2023. Besides promoting his livestock, he also wants to inform the public that Gen Z can be trusted in the livestock industry. Through his social media content, he also aims to inspire other young people not to feel ashamed about entering livestock farming. “In Indonesia, Gen Z involvement in livestock farming is only around 20 per cent, which is why innovation is limited as most operations are managed by older generations,” he added. Therefore, every piece of content on his social media account @hananfarm_ is carefully produced with a dedicated creative team, editor, and cameraman. Not only creating content, this year Hanan also started live TikTok sessions to promote his goat sales. “I’ve only been live on TikTok for about seven days, and the engagement has been incredible. From this year’s stock of 96 goats, 51 have already sold in a short time. Eid al-Adha is still a week away,” Hanan explained.
