No panic needed at Mt Slamet

BANDUNG: The Directorate of Volcanology and Mitigation of Geological Disasters said that 3,428-meter Mount Slamet in Central Java province was still normal on Friday, despite reports to the contrary.

Director Yousana OP Siagian said that to this point the volcano's status could be seen from the earthquake's data recorded by a seismograph and visual instruments placed at the mountain observation post.

Responding to the reports in mass media that the activity of Mount Slamet mountain had increased, he said it was a normal part of its activity, which always produces some smoke.

Therefore, he said, people living around the mountain need not panic. -- Antara
