No One is Above the Law: Series of Illegal Gold Mining Rafts in Kuantan Singingi Destroyed
The Riau Regional Police through the Kuantan Singingi Police (Kuansing) have once again demonstrated their commitment to taking firm action against illegal gold mining (PETI) activities. A series of PETI mining rafts were destroyed as a deterrent measure.
Kuansing Police Chief AKBP Hidayat Perdana stated that enforcement action was carried out following information from the community regarding illegal gold mining activities operating along the Kuantan River in Pulau Busuk Village, Inuman District, Kuantan Singingi Regency. In response to this information, the police chief deployed a team led by Cerenti Police Chief Iptu Peri Padli to conduct field observations.
“The team then went to the location at 09.10 Western Indonesian Time this morning and found dozens of PETI mining rafts that were not in operation,” said AKBP Hidayat in his statement on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.
Hidayat stated that upon arrival at the location, officers did not find any perpetrators, only dozens of mining rafts lined up along the riverbank. Regarding the PETI mining rafts found, the police immediately proceeded to destroy them by burning.
“We destroyed a total of 12 PETI mining raft units by burning them as a deterrent,” he added.
Hidayat conveyed that this enforcement action was concrete evidence of Kuansing Police’s commitment to protecting the environment and upholding the law.
“PETI activity not only violates the law, but also damages the natural ecosystem that will become a legacy for our children and future generations,” he said.
He also emphasised that he would take firm action against every form of legal violation against the ecosystem in accordance with the spirit of Green Policing.
“No one is above the law. All those who violate regulations will face firm action from us, and we also urge the community not to commit violations,” he concluded.
