No more Jagorawi accidents, please
From Media Indonesia
Before Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was sworn in as president, he
reportedly stated he would stay at the presidential palace.
The statement should be welcomed because as Susilo's personal
residence is in Cikeas, Bogor, the traffic in on the Jagorawi
freeway would be frequently hampered by the regular passage of a
presidential motorcade.
The pile-up which took place on the same freeway two days
after Idul Fitri, in which six passengers died and dozens of
others were injured could certainly not have been predicted. It
is also unfair to directly blame Susilo's convoy for the pile-up,
although the crash did occur before the President's entourage
passed through the area and because traffic was stopped for him
to pass.
However, the cause of the accident should be studied and its
consequences given due consideration so as to prevent any
recurrence of such a mishap.
