Jakarta — National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has ordered that Mobile Brigade (Brimob) officer First Class Private (Bripda) Masias Siahaya receive the severest possible punishment.

“Yes, I have ordered that the harshest measures be taken,” he said on Monday, 23 February 2026.

The former head of the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency affirmed that he had instructed both the Maluku Regional Police Chief and the Head of the Professional and Security Division (Propam) to thoroughly investigate the case from both criminal and ethical standpoints.

“I have ordered the Regional Police Chief and the Propam Division Head to take firm action and see the process through to completion. We must deliver justice for the victim’s family,” he said.

According to Sigit, the decisive action reflects the National Police’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victim’s family. He also guaranteed that the legal process would be conducted openly and subject to public scrutiny. Furthermore, Sigit reiterated the principle he has long championed within the police force: zero tolerance for violations.

“I have long stated that those who perform well will be rewarded, but those who commit violations will naturally face consequences, as we are all governed by regulations,” he added.

It was previously reported that the Brimob officer suspected of assaulting a Madrasah Tsanawiyah (Islamic junior secondary school) student identified as Arianto Tawakal (14) — resulting in his death near the Uningrat University campus in Tual City, Maluku, on Thursday, 19 February 2026 — had been apprehended and detained at the Tual Police Station holding facility. The Maluku Regional Police confirmed that the legal process against the officer would proceed without compromise.

The suspect, identified as Bripda Masias Siahaya, is known to be a member of Brimob Company 1, Battalion C Pelopor. He allegedly assaulted the victim, who was riding a motorcycle with his older sibling at the time. The victim was rushed to hospital for medical treatment but ultimately died, while his sibling sustained a fractured bone.

The Maluku Regional Police affirmed its commitment to handling the case professionally, transparently, and justly.

“The suspect, an officer from Brimob Company 1, Battalion C Pelopor, identified as Bripda MS, has been apprehended and detained at the Tual Police Station holding facility to be held accountable for his actions in accordance with prevailing legal procedures,” said Maluku Regional Police Public Relations Head Senior Commissioner Rositah Umasugi in a press statement on Friday, 20 February 2026.

Meanwhile, Maluku Regional Police Chief Inspector General Dadang Hartanto emphasised that there would be no tolerance for any legal or ethical violations committed by police officers.
