Jakarta — Abidin Fikri, deputy chair of Commission VIII of Indonesia’s House of Representatives, expressed confidence that preparations for the 2026/1447 H hajj will progress smoothly according to plan, given that no prohibition announcement has been issued by Saudi Arabian authorities, unlike the restrictions that occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic.

He stated that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has not yet provided an official explanation regarding reports about the 2026 hajj arrangements. “We at Commission VIII are continually overseeing the preparation for the 2026 hajj comprehensively, including regulatory, technical, and financing aspects, as well as the planned readiness being carried out by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah,” Abidin said in Jakarta on Wednesday (11 June 2026).

Nevertheless, he reminded the Indonesian government through the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah to maintain intensive communication with Saudi Arabian authorities to clarify matters for prospective Indonesian pilgrims. “The public is urged to remain calm as there is no indication that conflict will disrupt the holy areas of Mecca and Medina,” he said.

Furthermore, he requested that the government strengthen coordination to anticipate all possible scenarios, whilst ensuring that pilgrim services remain optimal without reducing quotas or quality.

Commission VIII of the House of Representatives, he said, is committed to conducting strict oversight to ensure that the 1447 H/2026 hajj can be carried out safely and comfortably for all prospective Indonesian pilgrims.
