Jakarta - Japanese automaker Nissan has signalled the return of the legendary Xterra SUV and the latest generation of the Skyline as part of its strategy to launch several new models in the coming years. According to Carscoops on Tuesday local time, the presence of the new-generation Xterra was showcased through a teaser featuring a bold and dramatic design. Meanwhile, the latest Nissan Skyline generation will be launched in the Japanese domestic market. Additionally, the muscular bonnet reflects the characteristic off-road nature of the Xterra. Nissan stated that the new Xterra will be produced in the United States and is scheduled for launch by the end of 2028. The model will use a new body-on-frame platform, which could also be utilised by up to four other models produced in that country. For the powertrain sector, the Xterra will be offered with V6 engine choices as well as a V6 hybrid variant, adapting to performance needs while ensuring fuel efficiency. The first category is ‘Heartbeat’, which will include the new Xterra and Skyline. The second category is ‘Core’ models such as the Rogue, X-Trail, and an electric version of the Juke. Additionally, there is a ‘Growth’ category focused on emerging markets, as well as a ‘Partner’ category. Nissan’s premium brand Infiniti will also introduce a new premium sports sedan and a luxurious compact hybrid SUV before the end of 2028. As part of its long-term vision titled ‘Mobility Intelligence for Everyday Life’, Nissan will integrate Nissan AI Drive and Nissan AI Partner technologies to enhance autonomous driving capabilities. The Nissan Elgrand model is said to be the first vehicle to adopt this latest technology, targeting end-to-end autonomous capabilities by the end of fiscal year 2027. Furthermore, Nissan plans to streamline its product portfolio from 56 models to 45 models. The company stated that low-performing models will be prioritised for discontinuation, though it has not yet detailed which models will be affected.
