TOKYO (Nikkei): Nippon Steel Corp. has received two orders for
natural-gas development bases from two companies based in
Jakarta, Indonesia, totaling Y4.5 billion, the Nihon Keizai
Shimbun reported in it Saturday morning edition.
Development of natural resources in Asia slowed following the
economic crisis of 1997. However, activity in this area has once
again revived on a turnaround in the Asian economies.
Nippon Steel is to build a base off the eastern coast of
neighboring Malaysia for the Indonesian arm of Premier Oil PLC, a
U.K. outfit. The order is worth Y2 billion.
The company was also to construct a base for the Indonesian
unit of the France-based Totalfina group. The construction will
take place off the southeast of Kalimantan. The order totals Y2.5
billion.
Nippon Steel is to handle design, manufacturing, installation
and trial operation for both bases.
