Nine Indonesian Citizens Arrested by Israel Set to Arrive in Indonesia This Afternoon
Nine Indonesian nationals detained by Israeli forces are scheduled to arrive at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport at 15:30 WIB on Sunday afternoon. The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will oversee the repatriation process.
Media coordinator for the Global Peace Convoy Indonesia (GPCI), Harfin Naqsyabandy, confirmed the arrival schedule. He stated that the nine Indonesians are expected to land in Jakarta on Sunday evening.
The detainees departed Istanbul, Turkey, on Saturday evening on an Emirates flight. According to Naqsyabandy, the flight departed Istanbul on Saturday, 23 May, at 19:35, arriving in Dubai before continuing to Jakarta, with an expected arrival in the Indonesian capital on Sunday, 24 May, at 15:30 WIB.
The detention of the nine Indonesians began when Israeli military forces intercepted several humanitarian aid vessels belonging to the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) on Monday, 18 May. Israeli forces gradually intercepted multiple GSF vessels, resulting in the arrest of various GSF volunteers. All GSF volunteers, including the nine Indonesians, were released on Thursday, 21 May, local time, and subsequently travelled to Turkey using aircraft arranged by local authorities.
Several detained Indonesians have reported receiving inhumane treatment. Some have alleged suffering physical violence, including being beaten and subjected to electric shock.
