Nine Areas of Jakarta Face Landslide Risk in March 2026
Jakarta Provincial Government has issued an early warning regarding potential landslides across Jakarta Province. Landslides are anticipated to occur in several areas of Jakarta during March 2026.
According to information from the Jakarta Provincial Government’s Instagram account, the forecasted landslide-prone areas have been determined through overlay analysis combining geological landslide vulnerability maps with monthly rainfall forecasts obtained from the Indonesian Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency (BMKG).
According to information from the Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), several areas within Jakarta Province are classified as medium-risk zones:
South Jakarta Administrative City:
Cilandak District
Jagakarsa District
Kebayoran Baru District
Kebayoran Lama District
Mampang Prapatan District
Pasar Minggu District
Pesanggrahan District
East Jakarta Administrative City:
Kramat Jati District
Pasar Rebo District
In medium-risk zones, areas have moderate potential for ground movement. Landslides in these zones may occur if rainfall exceeds normal levels, particularly in areas bordering river valleys, cliffs, road embankments or where slopes experience disturbance.
In high-risk zones, areas possess high potential for ground movement. In these zones, landslides may occur with above-normal rainfall, whilst dormant landslides may become active again.
Landslide Prevention Measures
Before Settling:
The following measures can be taken to prevent landslides:
Avoid constructing permanent buildings in disaster-prone areas (cliff areas, slopes, riverside areas and unstable ground).
Prepare retaining structures and anti-landslide embankments.
Construct strong drainage channels and gutters for rainwater flow.
Conduct soil compaction and reinforce building foundations.
Avoid indiscriminate tree felling.
When Already Settled:
For those already residing in disaster-prone areas, the following steps are recommended:
Conduct reforestation in surrounding areas with deep-rooted plants.
Remain vigilant regarding high rainfall and continuously monitor official media for early warning information about ground movement from authorised agencies.
Always prepare an emergency disaster kit to prepare for urgent situations.
Do not delay evacuation and do not hesitate to relocate immediately to a safe location when extreme weather occurs.
