Jakarta, CNN Indonesia – The Karawang Regency Government in West Java is implementing the closure or operational ban on nightlife entertainment venues during Ramadan 1447 Hijriah as an effort to maintain a conducive atmosphere in the area.

“We will not allow any form of nightlife entertainment venue to operate during the holy month of Ramadan,” said Karawang Regent Aep Syaepuloh in Karawang, as quoted from Antara on Sunday (15/2).

He said the implementation of the nightlife venue operational ban was an agreement reached during a coordination meeting attended by various parties, including representatives of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Karawang.

Aep instructed all nightlife entertainment venues in Karawang to cease operations from one day before the start of fasting until three days after Eid al-Fitr.

The nightlife venue operational ban is stipulated in Karawang Regent Circular Letter Number 267 of 2026 on Advisories During Ramadan 1447H/2026 CE.

The types of nightlife entertainment venues covered by the regulation include discotheques, nightclubs, spas/massage parlors, and karaoke venues.

In addition to regulating the nightlife venue operational ban, the Karawang Regent’s Circular Letter also calls for the eradication of social ills such as gambling, prostitution, and the distribution of alcoholic beverages.

Furthermore, there are also bans on the display of advertisements/posters/publications as well as film screenings or other performances that are pornographic, sexually provocative, or erotic in nature; restrictions on restaurant activities; and limitations on the use of outdoor loudspeakers at mosques/prayer rooms until 10:00 PM.

Aep hopes all parties, from government agencies to business operators, can work together in enforcing the regulations set for the Ramadan period.

Karawang Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) Chief Basuki Rachmat said the closure of nightlife entertainment venues applies for a full month without exceptions for operating hours. To ensure compliance, he said, monitoring will be conducted routinely, especially during nighttime and weekends.

“Joint patrols will involve Satpol PP personnel and other relevant authorities,” he said.
