Nico out to salvage pride
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian former world mini flyweight champion Nico Thomas will attempt to save his plummeting boxing career when he takes on Jodsingh Sarina of Thailand for the vacant Orient and Pacific Boxing championship title on May 11 here.
The 28-year-old Indonesian, who held the International Boxing Federation belt for just three months in 1993, is even planning a return to the world competition. "If I win the OPBF title, I will make three title defense attempts before going up to the IBF championship," he said.
Nico said he had learnt from experience and would overcome his younger opponent. Both Nico, OPBF number two contender, and Jodsingh, contender number one, will earn US$25,000 for the bout, scheduled for 12 rounds.
The international title fight is included in six cards staged at the Senayan indoor stadium. (amd)
