Nickel-Semiconductors Drive March 2026 Exports to US$66.85 Billion
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Indonesia’s cumulative export value from January to March 2026 reached US$66.85 billion. This represents a 0.34% increase compared to the same period last year, which stood at US$66.62 billion.
Export performance over the first three months of this year was supported by the surge in the processing industry sector, with a value of US$54.93 billion, or a 3.96% rise from US$52.89 billion in the same period last year.
“Export growth in the processing industry sector, which increased significantly, was mainly driven by nickel, organic basic chemicals derived from agricultural products, palm oil, other organic basic chemicals, as well as semiconductors and other electronic components,” said Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, Ateng Hartono, during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday (4/5/2026).
The processing industry sector was the only pillar of Indonesia’s export growth during the first three months of this year. Other sectors, in fact, declined.
The deepest decline in export performance was in the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector, which fell 32.18% from US$1.69 billion in January-March 2025 to just US$1.14 billion.
Meanwhile, the mining and other sectors dropped 11.17%, with the value decreasing from US$8.41 billion in the same period last year to US$7.47 billion in January-March 2026.
Specifically for March 2026, Indonesia’s export performance actually contracted by 3.10%, as the value fell to US$22.53 billion from US$23.25 billion in March 2025.
“The year-on-year decline in March 2026 export value was mainly driven by decreases in several non-oil and gas export commodities, including fats and vegetable oils (HS15) down 27.02% with a contribution of 3.52%, cocoa and its preparations (HS18) down 50.89% with a contribution of 0.75%, as well as coffee, tea, and spices down 54.69% with a contribution of -0.68%,” Ateng emphasised.
