Denpasar (ANTARA) - The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office in Badung Regency, Bali, is currently verifying data on 26 foreign nationals with their respective countries’ representatives regarding alleged involvement in online scam cases.

“Information on fugitives or wanted persons lists (DPO) is still awaiting coordination from those countries’ representative offices,” said the Head of Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Bugie Kurniawan, in Denpasar, Bali, on Tuesday.

He explained that the 26 foreign nationals come from several countries, including the Philippines and Kenya. Currently, immigration authorities are tracing their data through the embassies or representatives of their respective countries.

Based on coordination with the police, Bugie stated that the Denpasar Police Resort is still coordinating with the Bali Provincial Police and the prosecutor’s office to determine the charges against the foreign nationals.

“It is still being investigated whether this case involves online scams or human trafficking crimes (TPPO). The handling remains with the Denpasar Police Resort, and since secure accommodation is needed, they have been entrusted to our office,” he said.

The raid was a follow-up to a report from the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta regarding the alleged confinement of Philippine nationals suspected of being employed as online scam operators.

From initial examinations, several foreign nationals were found unable to produce valid travel documents in the form of passports.

The police stated that the handling of the case is ongoing, including further investigations into the alleged confinement and the possibility of a criminal network involving the foreign nationals.
