NGOs quiet about Ambon tragedy
NGOs quiet about Ambon tragedy
From Bisnis Indonesia
Reading newspapers these days makes me utterly sad. Imagine, nearly every day there are deaths in conflicts raging in Ambon. Each group takes turns. One day it is our Muslim brothers, the next it is Christians.
Outrageous cruelties against humanity which we saw in Bosnia some time ago are now happening in this country.
What is more saddening is that nobody seems to care about the tragedy. In my opinion, the government and the Armed Forces are not serious in handling the matter. If they were serious, the conflicts would have ceased long ago.
The voice of NGOs is also not heard. Are they all too busy with social safety net funds so they do not care anymore about the fate of their brothers in Ambon? Where is Munir with his Kontras? Where is the National Commission on Human Rights? Is it our wish to let the slaughtering go on in Ambon?
