New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani attracted attention while attending Eid al-Adha prayers in the Bronx by wearing an Arsenal jersey, delivering a message of solidarity and social care.

Mamdani wore the 2025/26 away Arsenal jersey in blue with long sleeves, paired with trousers and styled like a thobe to cover his knees.

In a post on X, Mamdani expressed Eid al-Adha sentiments emphasising solidarity and care for those in need, particularly the vulnerable.

“Happy Eid al-Adha! Today, as we honour Prophet Ibrahim, Eid al-Adha reminds us that sacrifice is not a burden,” Mamdani wrote, cited by CNN on Thursday, 28 May.

“It is an opportunity to see ourselves as part of something greater, to reach out to those in need,” he added.

Mamdani also stated he felt honoured to be New York City’s first Muslim mayor and committed to leading with solidarity.

“I am honoured to be New York City’s first Muslim mayor and determined to lead through solidarity,” he said.

He added that the city government would continue efforts to help residents meet daily needs.

“Together, we are working to ensure New Yorkers can afford food, housing, and childcare,” Mamdani said.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are enjoying an impressive season in the 2025/26 competition. The Gunners recently won the Premier League, ending a 22-year league title drought.

They are also preparing for the UEFA Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain.

The residence of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was targeted with an improvised bomb during a protest over the weekend, according to Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch.

Zohran Mamdani is New York City’s first mayor to be sworn in using the Quran.

Mamdani was officially sworn in as New York City’s first Muslim mayor, taking the oath on the Quran.

He was officially sworn in as New York City Mayor on Thursday, 1 January, at the former subway station, Old City Hall.
