Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has confirmed that authorities will take enforcement action against padel courts operating without a Building Approval (PBG). The Jakarta Provincial Government will halt operations, demolish structures, and revoke business licences of operators found in violation of the regulations.

“We have reason to believe that there are padel courts that do not have permits or do not hold a PBG,” Pramono said at City Hall in Jakarta on Tuesday (24/2/2026).

He explained that for the construction of new padel courts, owners are first required to obtain technical approval from the Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency. This measure is intended to ensure that sports facility construction is not carried out haphazardly without oversight.

The Jakarta Provincial Government, he continued, has also prohibited the construction of padel courts on regional government-owned assets or in Green Open Space (RTH) areas. The policy is designed to ensure that the function of public spaces is preserved.

“We will not permit construction to continue. Therefore, all assets designated for Green Open Space shall remain developed as Green Open Space,” Pramono affirmed.

According to preliminary data from the Jakarta Provincial Government, there are a total of 397 padel courts in the capital. The government is currently investigating how many of these have yet to obtain official permits.
