Bekasi, Kompas.com – Bekasi City Metro Police have revealed changes in the methods used for distributing illegal hard drugs in several areas of Bekasi City. Previously, perpetrators utilised shops and stores as storage and transaction points, but now the approach has shifted to a cash on delivery (COD) system and the use of drop points for item collection. “They approach customers or buyers directly, or vice versa. Perpetrators also frequently use the ‘drop point’ method, which is then collected by the buyer,” stated the Bekasi City Metro Police Chief, Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro, during a press conference on Friday (17/4/2026). “There were 31 narcotics cases and 49 cases involving hard drugs or dangerous medicines,” said Kusumo. During that period, police arrested 98 perpetrators from various areas, including West Bekasi, East Bekasi, Pondok Gede, Jatisampurna, and South Bekasi. From these case revelations, police seized a large quantity of evidence. This included 45,835.24 grams or approximately 45 kilograms of marijuana, 883.65 grams of sabu (methamphetamine), 71 ecstasy pills, and 759.55 grams of synthetic tobacco. “In addition, police seized 271.68 hard drugs or dangerous medicines,” said Kusumo. Kusumo claimed that the case revelations have saved more than 62,000 lives from potential drug abuse. “This is our commitment; there is no compromise on narcotics and dangerous drugs. If there is information, please report it via the 110 call centre,” he emphasised. In these cases, the perpetrators are charged under Article 114 of Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, with a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment.
