New Internet provider set up

JAKARTA (JP): A new Internet provider, PT Cyberindo Aditama,
announced yesterday that the company is launching its information
superhighway service, called CBNnet, on Thursday.

"The Internet will become a mature industry in the future and
more people will use the service," Cyberindo's president, Dani
Sumarsono, told reporters.

He said that Internet business in Indonesia will grow steadily
and competition will be based on services, tariff rates and
accessibility.

"The government has set guidelines for tariff arrangements so
that each Internet provider only has a narrow range to compete in
tariffs," he said. "The competitive advantages for the operators
include services and easiness for the users to get access."

In addition to Cyberindo, there are currently four other
Internet providers: PT Indo Internet (Indonet), PT Aplikanusa
Lintasartha (Idola), PT Rajasa Media (Radnet) and PT Sistelindo
Mitralintas (Inet).

According to Dani, there are about 15,000 Internet users in
Indonesia and Cyber expects to attract some 2,000 new individual
users within the first year of operation.

Cyberindo, which is partly owned by the Foundation of
Technical Education in Indonesia, has set their registration and
installation fee at Rp 50,000 (US$21.80) for individual users and
Rp 1 million for corporations. Individual users will have to pay
additional charges between Rp 2,000 and Rp 3,000.

The company charges monthly fees between Rp 15,000 and Rp
215,000 for individual users and between Rp 800,000 and Rp 1.6
million for corporations. (icn)
