Netizens Dig Into Background of LPDP Recipient Tyas Who Boasted of Children's Foreign Citizenship, Discover Father-in-Law Was Questioned by KPK
Jakarta — The wave of criticism directed at Dwi Sasetyaningtyas, known as Tyas, has shown no signs of abating despite her having issued an apology. Her earlier remarks about her children’s citizenship status — holding foreign passports — continue to fuel debate, which has now extended to scrutiny of her family background.
Amid the torrent of online commentary, a number of netizens have begun investigating details of Tyas’s life story that she had previously shared on social media. One narrative that has drawn particular attention is her account of a past life described as full of hardship alongside her husband.
“Ms Sasetyaningtyas said she and her husband used to live a difficult life,” wrote the account @birkindust_ on Threads, quoted on Saturday, 21 February 2026.
The post was followed by the results of an independent investigation that claimed to have uncovered the identity of Tyas’s father-in-law. The netizen suggested there was a discrepancy between the narrative of a modest life that Tyas had presented and her husband’s actual family background.
“I found out that her in-law, her husband’s father, is apparently a high-ranking ministry official,” the account continued in a sardonic tone.
The individual in question is Syukur Iwantoro. Based on his career record, he is known as a senior bureaucrat who held a number of strategic positions in the national agriculture sector. Syukur Iwantoro is recorded as having served as Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture as well as Director-General of Livestock and Animal Health.
Netizen scrutiny did not stop at his positions. Online commentators also highlighted records showing that the father-in-law had been summoned by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) as a witness in several cases.
“And he was a regular at KPK summons too,” the account added, uploading screenshots of news reports concerning the official’s involvement.
According to previous news reports, Syukur Iwantoro was examined as a witness in a case of alleged bribery related to garlic imports in 2019 and a case of bribery related to beef imports in 2013. His status at the time was that of a witness, not a suspect.
