Neighbouring Countries' Fuel Prices Rise in Unison, Indonesia Holds Steady Until Year-End!

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Several countries in Southeast Asia continue to adjust their fuel (BBM) prices as of 13 April 2026. This is due to the impact of geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East, particularly the war involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.

For example, in Malaysia, the average fuel price for petrol as of 13 April reaches US1.074perlitreorRp18, 419perlitre(exchangerateRp17, 150/US). Meanwhile, diesel fuel reaches US$1.690 per litre or Rp28,984 per litre.

These figures represent an increase compared to the position on 30 March, when petrol was US$0.956 per litre or Rp16,395 per litre. Meanwhile, diesel fuel was US$1.364 per litre or Rp23,393 per litre.

In contrast to countries in Southeast Asia, the Indonesian government has decided to hold domestic fuel (BBM) prices, applying not only to subsidised BBM but also to non-subsidised BBM.

Take, for example, Pertamina’s fuel products at petrol stations, where the price of RON 92 or Pertamax fuel on 1 April remains Rp12,300 per litre. Then Pertamax Green or RON 95 remains Rp12,900 per litre.

This also applies to Pertamax Turbo, which remains Rp13,100 per litre. Dexlite remains Rp14,200 per litre. And Pertamina Dex remains Rp14,500 per litre.

As for Pertamina’s subsidised BBM, such as RON 90 or Pertalite, it remains Rp10,000 per litre. Similarly, Subsidised Solar remains the same at Rp6,800 per litre.

Previously, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia assured that the government will not raise the price of subsidised fuel (BBM) until the end of this year. Even though global oil prices are still volatile at present.

Bahlil also assured that Indonesia’s fuel supply remains relatively secure. “It’s safe. I convey to the public that, God willing, our stocks are above the minimum standard, whether it’s solar, petrol, or LPG, God willing, it’s safe,” said Bahlil when met after a Limited Meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace, Jakarta, Thursday (16/4/2026).

“And once again, I say that we have agreed on the direction from the President that subsidised BBM prices will not be raised until the end of the year, God willing, forever,” he added.

Bahlil also hopes that global crude oil prices do not surge back above US$100 per barrel, so as not to add to the burden on the state budget (APBN).

“This depends on the ICP price, but if it reaches 100 dollars, it’s already safe for the APBN, and the average ICP price from January until now is not more than US$77 (per barrel). So we only split US$7, so don’t let anyone think where our money comes from? We’ve only risen US$7 up to now, what I’m saying,” said Bahlil.

It should be noted that global oil prices moved lower in Thursday morning trading (16/4/2026), after market players responded to the prospect of easing tensions between the United States and Iran. Hopes for a new diplomatic channel have slightly reduced the geopolitical risk premium, although global supply disruptions still loom.

According to Refinitiv data at 09.30 WIB on Thursday (16/4/2026), the nearest Brent contract was at US$95.19 per barrel, up slightly from the previous close at US$94.93 per barrel. Meanwhile, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was recorded at US$91.60 per barrel, higher than Wednesday’s close at US$91.29 per barrel.
